The President of The Boston Sparks regrets to announce the death of 40 year member and Past President Frank W. Fitzgerald Jr.
Frank W. Fitzgerald Jr. a lifelong resident of Malden, passed away on Friday, Oct 20th, after a lengthy illness. Frank was born in Malden in 1932, the son of Francis W. and Cora L. Fitzgerald. He was raised in Malden and graduated from Malden High School with the Class of 1949. He then attended the Franklin Institute for Electrical Engineering, before joining he US Army in 1953. He served honorably during the Korean Conflict, and was discharged in 1955, having attained the rank of Corporal. After his discharge, he attended Boston University, where he received his degree in Business Administration, graduating in 1959. In Sept of 1960, Frank married his sweetheart, Nancy A. McRae, and the two settled down in Malden together. He joined the Malden Fire Department in 1956, and over the years, worked his way throught the ranks, becoming Malden’s Fire Chief. He retired in 1994, after 38 years of service to the city.
Frank was a member of the Malden Historical Society, where he also served as President. He was also a member and past president of the Bay State Post Card Collector Club, and Past President of the Box 52 Association in Boston, a philanthropic club for firefighters. He was also a member of the Boston Sparks Assn., Boston Fire Museum, Mass. Institute of Fire Dept. Instructors, New England Assn. of Fire Chiefs, International Assn. of Fire Chiefs, and Malden VFW Post 639.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. Fitzgerald, his sister, Lois Miara of Winchester, many nieces and nephews, and his good friend Tom Curtis. In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, Charles E. Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Thursday, October 26th, at 7:45 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Marys of the Assumption, 670 Washington St, Revere, MA at 9 AM. Interment to follow in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wed, Oct 25th, from 5-8 PM.
