The city is partnering with the Malden Fire Department to help support the victims of fires that have devastated the town of Malden, WA. Established as a station stop on Dec. 20, 1909, railway officials named the town after Malden, MA.
Fires have destroyed 80 percent of the small Washington town, decimating its post office, fire department, City Hall and library. Many homes have also been badly damaged or destroyed.
A number of fundraising efforts are underway, including in Malden. The Lions Club of Malden is accepting donations of Visa/other prepaid cash gift cards, which can be dropped off at the Malden Fire Department Headquarters, 1 Sprague St., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Donations will be shipped to the Lions Club in Malden, WA. All proceeds will go toward helping the victims.
